Samúel Jón Samúelsson Big Band – Iceland Airwaves 2011

Samúel Jón Samúelsson Big Band’s original mix of funk, afro, soul and jazz music was my favorite surprise of Airwaves.

Photographer’s Notes

Shooting a large ensemble is tons of fun and definitely keeps you on your toes. There’s never a dull moment with a stage full of musicians. However, I did focus mainly on bearded band-leader, Samúel Jón Samúelsson, and charismatic conga player Siggi Baldursson. It’s worth noting that Siggi is former member The Sugarcubes–a popular early nineties Icelandic alt-rock band that capitulated Björk into the international pop stardom.

My exposure was about 1/100 and f/3.2 at ISO 2000.
